Hexed: Part Two

Entering the bar, the crew faced a hostile room full of Shark gangers who had no love of off worlders. The Baron being an enterprising character with shockingly good social skills defused the situation by not only buying everyone in the bar a drink but by mixing them himself. Cunningly proving the existence of hex by employing it as an ingredient, the bar proceeded to get absolutely wasted on these delicious let intoxicating cocktails. TC McQueen managed to glug down one of the cocktails whilst remaining vaguely sober, Kordau managed to get absolutely hammered whilst the Baron was merely drunk. The majority of the gangers lacking the crews background in hard drinking were in a bad way, several passed out or were busy yacking up in the corners of the bar and several had started singing.

The Baron and the gang leader Finsbury wandered off to Finsbury's ship to negotiate the sale of the Hex. Memorising the entrance code, the Baron proceeded to open up a hip flask of rather lethal single malt Uisge. Continuing their drinking after a vast amount of meaningless twaddle, the universe was set to rights and the Baron was still standing. Finsbury escorted him off the ship before passing out in the captains chair.

The Baron hastened into the bar just in time to join in the chorus of 'Who's got my leg?' and to initiate a version of 'The asteroid has got no hole' that would both shock and shame his mother. Whilst the gangers were preoccupied bellowing a particularly off key verse the Baron grabbed Kordau who was leering at a hoverbike advert featuring an impractically scantily dressed holo model and signalled to TC McQueen who pretended to be carried out by the Baron.

Baron having changed plans so often that even he wasn't sure what the currently plan was lead the crew, including the Tillen who rocked up at the last minute to board Finsbury's star ship.

Finbury was out cold. Just to be sure Kordau punched him in the face repeatedly with his gauntleted fist. It seemed to do the trick. The Baron turned to the only qualified pilot in the group and came to the sudden realisation that Kordau was utterly wasted. Thankfully, the Baron was quite liberal when it came to drink driving, in fact he was pretty liberal about most things. Seating Kordau in the pilots seat and rustling up a mug of the local caffeinated beverage they prepared to set off. Kordau flicked on the comms switch and was about to speak when a flustered Baron ran up and flicked it off again.

Cue several frantic minutes of the Baron running from the mining laser turret to the bridge trying to keep

Hexed: Part One

After many years of travelling, Baron Viktor Lowell's fortunes rose and waned. Unfortunately for the Baron despite his many successes he finds himself in financial jeopardy and his starship mortgaged up to the hilt.
With this months mortgage payment looming, he finds himself at risk of losing even his ship and as a consequence agrees to meet with two potential business partners at the planet of Wertreken II. He seats himself at the 'Belt Strap' a bar frequented by contractors and consultants from across the galaxy looking for work.

Kordau is angry and awesome, favouring the colour pink and floral dresses.

Settling down with his new business partners he staves off another months repossession by selling 4% of his ownership to both Kordau a grizzled freelancer and TC McQueen an ex-navy astrogator. Despite no longer having exclusive ownership of his starship, the Baron maintains his majority share and gets to keep on flying for a further month. When business is concluded and the rather important job of accessing the Belt Straps rather fine collection of aged Uisge begins, a rather flustered Tillen bursts in through the door. Apologising to the startled patrons she swiftly casts her eye around the room at the gathered freelancers. Something about the party catches her eye and she moves over ordering a round of drinks from the bar for the gathered party. She is clearly female, her body glove leaving little to the imagination. The outfit is smart, clean and professional, a hooked knife is belted to her waist along with a comm unit and a pouch of some kind. Probably a wallet. A shimmering cloak is attached by shoulder clasps.

Placated to by the swift delivery of beverages, the party makes a space for her at the table.

"Are you of the skills necessary to undertake an urgent investigatory task?” she enquires. Baron Viktor spreads his hands expansively and assures her that they are, much to the surprise of the rest of the party. The Tillen continues "I need your urgent help to resolve an extremely embarrassing situation. I am the astrogator of the honourable ship Open Path and humans call me Star. My ship has suffered the loss of an extremely valuable piece of cargo which may be due to fraud or theft – the exact conditions are not clear to me. This loss is not only financially painful but... also... dishonouring." She frowns deeply, her expression combining confusion, discomfort and perhaps anger.

"A local courier arrived at our ship just three hours ago with forms indicating he was to take away one
displacement ton of valuable spices from our hold. I and the senior ship’s officers were away from the ship, securing other deals. In our absence, a junior member of our crew – you may call him Rock – signed over the spice to the courier. I think he believed that as the forms were in order, perhaps our purser – you may call her Seer – had organised the courier." You notice her claws flicker out before she clenches her fists and clears her throat with a threatening growl, perhaps an instinctive reaction to her concern at the loss of the cargo.

"As soon as Seer and I returned to the Open Path and discovered this error, we contacted the courier – a human enterprise called BlinkOfAnEye in your language. They appeared to have forms filled in by our purser Seer to transport this spice to a Land-of-Spice in Wertreken II which we determined to be a restaurant serving local sea-derived foodstuffs. Unfortunately the BlinkOfAnEye had already delivered the cargo nearly an hour before we contacted them and have all the proper forms signed... yet the restaurant owner whom we then called denied all knowledge of the shipment and said his business premise was closed until later this evening."

She grimaces, showing a hint of sharp teeth.

"We called the port authorities but they say if the forms are valid and our own crew signed over the spices then
this is not a crime but rather a legal dispute and will involve the Guild law system since our goods are now
outside the extrality zone. Yet we called the Wertreken Prefect HQ and they cannot see that a crime has been committed either because they say there is no proof that the courier has only acted on our apparent instruction."

She shifts restlessly and waves one fully extended claw in the air as her voice rises in clear frustration: "Both these great entities seem unwilling to do more than consider opening an investigation, if we fill in many forms, pay a fortune in fees and wait a great time and then I still have no belief they would find anything of use. Only 50 years our family fought alongside the Guild in the Exodus Wars and were lauded as heroes! Now we are deemed an annoyance when ask that Prefects do there job and investigate a matter of missing cargo."

Her claw slices through the air in an angry gesture. "Understand that we feel they show us great disrespect.
To lose this cargo is great dishonour. It must be recovered, by whatever means is necessary and as quickly as possible. It is with this task in mind that I have sought out investigators such as yourselves…"

The Baron glances at his compadres and nods. "I believe this is a matter in which we could assist, although there is the small matter of compensation for the many business expenses such an investigation is likely to incur."

Star grimaces "Of course, I am familiar with the human love of coin. I can pay you 400 credits now, that is 100 credits each to cover your expenses, then a further 4,000 credits for the successful recovery of the cargo. I will pay you an 800 credit retainer for each day you are working on this case."

As she leaves the table to procure another round of drinks. The party consults each other and discusses the case. Kordau grumbles at the low wages, "4,000 credits is barely enough to buy a pair of Gauss Rifles. Let alone pay the mortgage."

The Baron waves his hands dismissively "As long as the case is cracked within a week we are in profit dear boy, anything left over will be a bonus. It's simply a more convoluted case of fetch and carry."

"We are working for furries now? I don't like it. You can't trust aliens." Sneers Dom.

TC McQueen nods his assent. "Besides, there are no other jobs about. Lets just go and recover the cargo."

Star returns to find the party smiling benevolently at her. "Star, we accept your terms but have a few questions first." Star grins happily at the party, exposing her sharp teeth and slaps her chest with both hands in a traditional Tillen expression of glee. "Excellent! Please makes whatever inquires of me you need."

The party remained at the Belt Strap for another drink before departing to begin their investigation. The first port of call was the courier company 'BlinkOfAnEye'. After traversing the Wertreken II underground system successfully they arrived at the courier company. Taking a ticket they calmly waited inline and got to be exposed to the general populace of Wertreken II, being a belt mining colony this isn't an entirely agreeable situation but thankfully after 30 minutes they are called up. The Baron requests an audience with the courier who made the delivery, handing over a data wafer containing the shipping request and invoice. After consulting the papers, the clerk reports that all seems in order and the shipment has been completed successfully. Sighing the Baron asks to see the manager, quickly realising that the clerk had little to offer the group. Another 20 minutes passes before the manager appears.

The manager appears to be an average, down-to earth guy wearing the standard dark green, one-piece jump suit typical of BlinkOfAnEye, with an animated eye on his front that blinks and then shoots off to one side. It repeats with annoying frequency – since it’s out of his eyeline he doesn’t seem to notice initially but then apologises, rubs a patch on the jump suit and the thingy stabilises. A name tag on his front shirt introduces him as Folim Jones. "What can I do for you folks?" he asks as genially as possible with a fixed customer-facing grin.

The Baron wields his charms like a weapon, calming requesting that he be allowed an audience with the courier who made the delivery. The manager maintaining his smile politely declines. "You must understand that our couriers are out all day making deliveries. It is corporate policy to handle all customer requests here at the office rather than involving the couriers. They haven't be trained to deal with the general public." Quickly ascertaining that Folim wasn't willing to budge on the matter, the Baron instead focuses on the paperwork. Getting copies of all the relevant papers he runs over them with a practised eye. Swiftly noticing a few discrepancies he thanks Folim and beats a hasty retreat. It turns out that apart from some amateurish admin errors on the form (including Rock accepting liability for customs fee's of 160k) the cargo is actually less spices and more Hex. A form of narcotic drug which is directly injected into the spine delivering euphoria and mild hallucinations to it's user. Legal on Wertreken II it is never the less illegal in most other Guild colonies. The four 0.25 ton crates of hex have an estimated street value of one million credits. In other words, a full 18th of the parties starships value. Plotting immediately begins, though becomes slightly curtailed once a swift bit of research on the EtherWeb pulls up information on the Open Path's owners. A very powerful trading magnate who fought in the Exodus Wars. In addition it appears that the person who signed for the hex used the Nome deplume of a famous holo movie star. None other than Flint Stallion, who is unlikely to be taking orders for 'Land of Spice'.

The party then descended on 'Land of Spice' a restaurant in the docks, part of a chain that serves pre-processed food aiming at the mining communities budget level. In some colonies it would be almost be classified as food.

The maître Dee appeared to guide the party to a table when TC McQueen demanded to see a manager. When questioned as to the purpose of his request he responded with death threats. Further proving exactly why the Baron was best suited to communicating with the general public. The maître Dee retreated and the Baron managed to get themselves seated by a second maître Dee  who was more congenial about fetching the manager. The Baron employing the old trick of pretending to be friends of his. The manager arrived, his pasty face sweating. He see's the party and his face goes white. "You are here about the gambling debts aren't you?".

"Maybe you should take a seat… Torpin." The Baron swiftly taking advantage of the confusion and getting his name from the badge on his suits front. "You understand the serious nature of your situation don't you?".

Torpin's shirt is growing visibly damp as he starts to panic. "I can have the money to you next week, I just need a bit more time, I've got some serious wins coming my way."

"Torpin, Torpin, dear boy. If you want us to wait then you are going to have to help us out with a small favour. Take a seat." TC McQueen and Kordau guide him to a spot between the two of them. Passing over the shipping receipt. "You see a delivery was made to your restaurant. It contained cargo that is very interesting for us." The Baron smiled "We know all about your hex trading Torpin, oh yes, we know everything."

Torpin looked genuinely bemused. "Hex trading? We don't sell Hex here, head office would never allow it. We have a strict no drugs policy here."

TC McQueen gripped him by the throat, "Tell us what you know Torpin or I'll… I'll…" TC McQueen grabbed a pen from Torpin's top pocket. "Kill you with this pen!". Torpin's eyes went wide.

"I'm promising you, we have had no hex shipments, we don't trade hex, I wouldn't even know where to get hex on this planet." Looking down at the shipping receipt Torpin looked even more confused. "That is after hours, there is never anybody in the restaurant at that time… Well, maybe some of the cleaning staff, but they aren't authorised to take in deliveries."

"TC put him down." TC reluctently consented. "Torpin, tell me, does your restaurant have security cameras?" The Baron inquired.

"Why of course, they were upgraded last week. I'll show them to you, they are controlled from my office." Torpin got up and the party stood as one. "No, no, not everyone. I'm not going anywhere with that psychopath!" Torpin shifted away from TC McQueen. "Just you Baron, just you."

"I'd love to cede to your wishes Torpin, but that just isn't how it works. I tell you what, TC and Kordau can wait here, my guard Dom will have to accompany us though otherwise he'd be failing in his job."

Dom, Torpid and the Baron entered the office and watched the tableaux unfold on the screen. The courier arrived, banged on the door. The only person present was  a solitary cleaner who ignored the courier for a time concentrating on mopping the grease stained floor until curiosity got the better of him. A brief conversation occurred between the cleaner and the courier which unfortunately wasn't audible. Never the less, the couriers facial expression wasn't hard to read, he must have felt like the luckiest man alive. Signing for the shipment, the courier deposits the four 0.25 ton crates outside the restaurant and moved on. An hour later, a swarm of dock workers arrived wearing leather jackets with the icon of a sharks face and armed to the teeth with s motley assortment of weapons including harpoon guns, slug pistols, crowbars and knives. They swiftly disappeared with the hex.

The Baron exhaled with a  deep breath. "We are going to need all the personnel files on that cleaner. As for the gambling debts, we need something for our time. How much cash do you have on you?"

Torpin pulled a data wafer from a drawer and 37 credits from his wallet. Baron Viktor sneered at the 37 credits and returned them.

"Don't bother, take your money and run. Run and don't stop running. People are coming for you, bad people." The party left Torpin as he broke down in his office.

Using the data wafer it didn't take the party long to track down the cleaner who was less Flint Stallion and more Harold Frix. An ex-con who secured a job at 'Land of Spice' as part of his parole. When ringing the door bell failed, Kordau employed his boot to smash through the door. A naked Frix was found gibbering to himself. A woman with a scarred face appeared behind the party.

"That man tried it on with me! Said he wanted to blow his seed into my melon bush! I want him to know that I've reported him to the Prefects! Filthy drug addict!" Kordau smiled and then propelled the woman out of the apartment with a suitable level of force. The Baron threw Flix in the shower after failing to communicate with him in an attempt to sober him up. Dom and Kordau tore apart the apartment with Dom pocketing a bottle of cheap Uisge and a slug pistol. Kordau joined TC McQueen and the Baron in the bathroom.

"Looks like the idiot smashed open some of the hex pins and poured the contents into a bottle of moonshine Uisge. We won't get much out of him."

As the water cascaded onto Frix, he ranted "Water? Are you a shark like me?" He attempts to pull Kordau into the shower with a drunken lunge and is swiftly tossed back in.

At that point the Prefects arrive. They storm the building with shotguns aimed. The party swiftly back up against the main rooms wall and raise there hands. Helmet sensors scan them and for a tense moment they stare into shotgun barrels.

"ID checks out, they are off worlders. Get out. Your presence here has been logged and may be used as evidence against you in future cases."

A voice booms out from the shower room.

"Harold Frix, this is your third infraction against an employee of the Guild within six months. Your family may contest our sentence at a later date with form A1-008, you however will not have that option." A shotgun blast rings out. "Please note, that sentence was passed at the time of 20:04. Moving to a disturbance in sector 7. Case ID AK:458861. Patrol move out."

With that, the party was left along with the headless corpse of Frix. The Baron swiftly took a few photographs of the corpse and the party left to investigate the Sharks. TC McQueen having deduced that Frix was describing a gang of some kind.

Kordau investigated in the street successfully discovering the location of the Sharks territory after a few minor (and near fatal) mishaps. The Baron comm's in to the Open Path requesting armed assistance. The Tillen access the parties ship and manage to take equipment from it to them under the noses of the Prefects. The party then walks into the nearest bar in the Sharks turf and demands to see the Sharks leader. Kordau waits outside in full armour with Dom who has twin slug pistols and TC McQueen who is wielding a slug pistol and a stun tonfa with a spare tonfa in his belt.

The Baron idles up to the bar and manages to get himself involved in a hostage situation. Kordau enters to the horror of the bar's patrons.

"I'm not a Legionnaire, no, I'm just a man who is hard enough to kill a Legionnaire and steal his battlesuit and rifle." For some reason, that didn't seem to reassure them. When Rock and Catch appeared behind the bar with slug pistols against the bar keepers head, the Sharks in the bar took their guns away from the Barons head. Who responded by glugging vintage Uisge from the ship brought by the Tillen.

The Sharks led the party to their leader Finsbury at his headquarters, a grimy bar called 'The Surf'.

C01M03S01: The Return of the Shadow Dancer

Well, after four weeks of dancing to the Eldars tune the players managed to not only surprise the DM but gazump the Eldar with a combination of luck, skill and extraordinary stubbornness.

The party assembled in the bridge with Shanks the paranoid cop interrogating the crew with little result, for any knowledge of heretical research or xenos tech.

The players accepted this watered down version of the truth and then proceeded to order the tech priest to get them a better picture of what is going on. The tech priest created an auspex (or at least recoded an existing one) which allowed the team to see the location of every heartbeat on the station.

Fifty anomalies were detected clustered around the stations plasma reactor. Rather optimistically they sent an Imperial security guard to investigate. He reported 50 bone like objects floating around reactor with flashing red lights. They ordered the rest of the red shirts in and they took up defensive positions. The stations tech priest came down with the party to investigate. When they emerged from the lift they round the security detail dead, pumped full of bullet wounds and shell cases on the upper gantry.

The party then bailed. Mavis the Black went to recover one of the devices and successfully retrieved it under a hail of rifle fire. Determining that the 'enemy' had secured the reactor the team headed back to the bridge. On route they comm'ed Commissar Little and got no response, locking and loading they stormed his room finding him swinging from the roof with no apparent injuries - apart from being hung... Well hung... They searched his room, Armandius liberated his uniform, ID and chainsword. Shanks found a concealed fragment of the eye of Drusus.

Thinking the Commissar was tempted and thus the entire bridge crew, Shanks and the team ordered the security head down to the commissars room and interrogated him. Finding his answers weak they dragged him to the bridge and Shanks and Armandius tossed him to the Captains feet. The captain was outraged but intimidated by Shanks admitted heretic research for the Adeptus Mechanicus and lying to him previously.

Stealing the Astropaths assistant Drake, they found that when he held the shard he could view the four mercenaries in the reactor room. With this information Shanks led an assault on the reactor. After considering using Drake to remotely shut down the reactor wiser heads prevailed and they instead stormed the reactor. Duke Lithonius flamed the enemy setting one on fire, Armandius shredded the leg armour of another, four of the guards who were meant to flank the enemy never arrived (two meeting Mirth the Harlequinn and two meeting Dirge the Harlequinn), one joined Mavis in covering fire chipping away at the enemy armour. Drake spasmed one of the guards causing him to collapse and Shanks missed at point blank range. Return fire smashed Lithonius in the leg and massively damaging his foot, bullets also broke two of Armandius's ribs and knocked him to the floor.

The team crawled back to the lift, Duke Lithonius leaving behind a lit frag grenade. Before the doors closed, Armandius leaned out and blasted the spawning merc in the face, shredding the contents of his helmet. The lift doors closed on Armadius's smirking face. The grenade blew damaging the mercs and bringing down the gantry they were on. Mavis blasted away at the prone mercs severely damaging two of them before the team arrived back - this time right behind them. Another merc died to concentrated shotgun blasts and the remaining crippled two surrendered. Stripped of their guns, the remaining fragments of the eye and what armour was undamaged they were banished to the ready room neatly tied and bound on the orders of Lithious.

The commander thanked them, but ordered them to deal with the Eldar. Lithonius and Armandius limped to sickbay, Mavis and Shanks went to boot out the Eldar. Mavis entered the ducts, Shanks marched imperiously through the front door to meet Farseer Weaver and the Harlequins Mirth and Dirge (human not Eldar names). As Shanks tried to negotiate the Farseer explained who the real enemy was...

Meanwhile...

Lithonius (with one fragment) and Armandius (with two fragments) were lying in bed both with legs suspended in plaster and Armandius with his ribs bound when the traitorous bridge crew burst in demanding the three fragments.

Lithonius with some acting worthy of an Oscar said “Sure you can have it, here you areâ€Â

C01M02S01: Lady in Red & C01M03S01: The Mechanical Man

Important note – RPG on Monday is cancelled as Armandius is in Spain shooting terrorists with his regiment. He’ll be back to kill Eldar the week after.

The team investigated the Sisters of Battle planet with 6 guardsmen as guards. Entering, they saw the nuns had been slaughtered, entrails were draped all over the shop and the entire temple had been horrifically desecrated. A haunting female voice mocked them from deep inside, Shanks ran like buggery gaining insanity points, Lithinius froze with terror, Armandius was shaken and poor little Mavis was nonchalant about the whole affair. After restoring order to the guards they investigated the altar. Chung photoed the 'Veil of Legends', then torched it. This revealed a series of tombs, one broken into. They checked out an unopened tomb to find that it was of an old hero guardsman. Shanks checked out the smashed tomb, it held a body wrapped in linen.

When Shanks investigated a daemonette claw tore through the linen and just missed his head. Armandis and Mavis shot it with lasguns which phased through the daemonette with no damage. The daemonette then flipped over Shanks head and decapitated a guardsmen, Lithonius covered it with his flamer but held his fire. The guardsmen reeled in terror. Armandis, Mavis and Shanks were aroused by the beast, Lithonius - being immune to her charms due to his immense and 'pure' love of the Emperor charged in. He struck the daemonette with the butt of his flamer. Unfortunately he did no damage only spilling his flamer ammo on the floor in a critical miss, he then scrabbled at her feet to pick up his pyrethrum flask feeling somewhat embarrassed at his ineptitude. Mavis switched to her shotgun, Shanks stabbed and missed with his bayonet and Armandis ripped up through her stomach with his Genestealer claw knife causing it to shimmer and almost be drawn back into the warp. The beast then snapped his leg with its claw causing Armandius to collapse to the floor, leg broken and whimpering like a small girl. Possibly of 12 years, definitely with a pink floral dress and pigtails. Mavis fired her shotgun at point blank range into the daemonettes face and banished the bitch in a suitably heroic style.

They found a deck of 72 tainted tarot cards, a silver combat knife and 40 bolt shells.

Carrying Armandius back to the ship they atomised the facility from orbit with beam and torpedo fire. Once it was cleansed they then went to the Adeptus Mechanicus planet. All partially healed on route (2 weeks). They investigated with 10 guards this time losing 4 to traps, looting the establishment they found a zoo (destroyed by Lithonius), a botany lab (ignored), a storage room (looted), a chem lab (drunk dry by Shanks and Mavis with their guards assisting), a research lab holding a stasis chamber linked to a computer. The chem lab's potions had a variety of effects from illness to outright violence. A guardsman chinned Shanks inflicting three wounds, Mavis drank a potion so potent that she saw through space and time, seeing the a fragment of the 'Eye of Drusus', a space station and a commissar. Shanks performed the 'litany of reboot' on the computer which resulted in a silver, skeletonal hand reaching out from the stasis chamber as it blinked offline and decapitating a guardsmen. The 'heroes' turned and fled leaving the guards to be picked off one by one. Four escaped out of the ten. The ship then hurtled back to Primus led by Mavises vision and Chungs computer research. They spoke to the planetary governor accepting full credit for saving the planet from Genestealers. The governer agreed to send 480 troops arriving in four hours. They docked with the suspect station, Lithonius ordered the ship to general quarters. Armandius and Lithonius interrogated the captain and commissar. The team entered the station to resupply only to have the stations power fail. Racing to the bridge, they witnessed there ship being sliced in two. Panicking they tried to radio the planet but comms were down. Leading a team to the comm array, Lithonius repaired the damaged device and they were able to contact the ships bridge (which had remained intact on emergency power), ordering Search & Rescue procedures to commence. All hands went to the emergency life pods.

They then returned to the commissar’s room to witness the sabotage on the vid screens. Seeing a harlequin they panic, all sorts of shouting happens and Shanks starts to whine about life’s unfairness. Lithonius orders a scan of the station for life forms and fifty additional heart beats are picked up. They then ordered the crew to repel boarders and left to attempt to make contact with the Eldar boarding party.

C01M01S02 Death From Within

Firstly, congratulations on the conclusion of a pretty arduous mission.

Secondly, as always, let me know if I've missed anything out.

The session started with Duke on the 'Blade of Fury's' bridge investigating the pirate raids. The ship appeared to have survivors much to the surprise of the team. The victims ship had been literally carved in two by the enemy attack, scorch marks and melted hull plating attest to the extreme heat of the blast. By the clean nature of the weapon it was rapidly surmised to be a heat beam or laser of an incredible scale or technology. Thus indicating that it was military grade or xenos, not necessarily heretical. Suppositions included Rogue Traders, Rebellious factions in the Imperial Navy or Adeptus Mechanicus vessels, pirates were effectively ruled out.

The survivors were rounded up by the 'Blade of Fury's' Piranhas along with whatever grain could be salvaged and placed in the ships hold. The Captain was found to be alive and in a stable condition, when interviewed he revealed that the attackers were never seen, according to the freighters scanner logs they never existed. The first sign was when a blast tore open the ship. Duke then proceeded to wrangle a deal to get a new ship for the Captains family in exchange for favours in the future with partial success, the Captain has been given rights to a ship that is a mere 7 years away from production.

Duke then began the long journey home.

Mavis who was keeping guard of Thackleberry whilst he slept, saw twenty Enforcers creep towards them with shock mauls. Instead of waking poor Thackleberry, she slinked off into the darkness and watched whilst they beat him senseless and dragged him off for interrogation by Judge Fredd. She then proceeded towards Arch Bishop Desmonds old house to search it.

Armandius and Shanks rose swiftly and proceeded to the upper spires to question Councillor McGinnis about the food riots, the death of his father Old Man McGinnis and the Joyous Choir. The Councillor is polite, but refrains from giving any but the most basic of answers, before ending the interview and advising them to leave it to Judge Fredd to investigate.

Mavis searched the house of Arch Bishop Desmund finding the place to be ransacked and deserted. Dust and debris coats the house and a colony of rats have taken refuge. The killer assasin however did manage to find a secret removable floorboard which revealed an artifact that glows green when held, getting brighter the longer it is held. The disadvantage being that the person who holds it gets weaker. This item was then placed back in its hiding place for Duke to check out on his arrival back at the planet. Other items included a Kakow feather quill pen and a book of 100 illustrations, namely members of the Sisters Repentia in erotic poses. No wonder the pious chap wanted that kept concealed!

Armandius and Shanks met up with Mavis at the house and both tried the artifact but couldn't identify it. It was covered with strange runes, but they were definately not written in Gothic and Shanks didn't think they appeared to be Chaotic runes with his knowledge of forbidden cults.

The team communicated with Duke who requested they waited for his arrival before attempting to infiltrate the church. Shanks who had taken leadership of the group refused his request with the justification that three members were easier to conceal and more than a match for anything they might encounter. The team went down to the underhive where the Arbites were hurling Stumm grenades down the access shaft to control the starving underhivers who were trying to get into the upper hive. The team were given two grenades and then dived into the Stumm gas with the genius idea of holding their noses and closing their eyes. Unsurprisingly, this didn't work and they emerged well and truely Stummed to face a crowd of over a hundred starving underhivers. Armandius managed to shrug off the effects, whilst a debilitated Shanks lead an inspirational speech. Shanks preached that he had managed to get past the Arbites and found more food than you could believe. He exhorted the crowd to rise up and said that he and his friends were living proof that you could fight past the oppressors and be liberated!

A few lucky rolls and the crowd rolled forward, the sound of Stumms, shotguns and even heavy stubbers rocked the hive as a full blown revolt started. Armandius took advantage of the distraction to rob a half dead famine victim while Mavis followed his lead and robbed a second, unfortunately Mavis's victim was more spritely than anticipated and stabbed her full on in the face bringing her down to a mere 2 wounds after her previous skirmish with the sniper from the last session. Shanks tried to placate the victim by giving her a day's worth of corpse starch rations which was exactly the wrong thing to do. Next thing you know, she is screaming "They have food!" and the team is forced to flee from a horde of starving underhivers. Armandius hurled his Stumms into the crowd, one malfunctioned, the other however stemmed the tide for a while. Shanks used his crowbar to lever open an access grate into the church and they swiftly clambered through. Mavis leading as cannon fodder, seeing as she was almost dead anyway (you heartless b@stards).

The grate ended in some kind of toilets, following the corridor from there the team narrowly avoided a pitfall trap before wrenching open the door and emerging into a furnace room. The room stank of smoke from burnt garbage and in general was rather horrible. Nice statues of babies adoring the ceiling skirting though. It was fairly bright in there courtesy of a whole host of glow bulbs and the furnace of course. Of more concern though were the three cultists who had their combat shotguns pointed directly at the Acolytes chests. Shanks attempted to talk his way out of the situation by pretending to be a furnace repairman which went fairly well until Mavis tried to back him up and described how her horrific injuries were caused by falling down the pit trap. At this point, cover pretty much blown, the cultists smiled and one of them (a doctor in her 'real life') tended to Mavis whilst Shanks and Armandius were led through a maze of tunnels and rooms to meet the cult leader.

Arriving at their destination they were beckoned into a pitch black room. When Shanks asked why the lights were off, he was told that the leader was meditating. Accepting that they strode into the room where the door promptly slammed behind them. Flicking on their torches they look around the room. Shanks found a Confessor crucified on a giant Imperial Eage and was suitably perturbed. Armandius was more concerned by the Genestealer that was hurtling towards them. Making full use of his quick draw ability, Armandius pulled out his... flintlock pistol which unsurprisingly missed, then dropped it and went to engage the stealer in hand to hand combat with his ancestral sabre. The Stealer in a fit of bad luck only scored one hit, which was a nasty one slicing through armour and pretty much crippling Armandius's right arm. Being ambidextrous he however just switched the sabre to his left. Shanks levelled his shotgun at the beast and with a fit of accuracy planted two shots on it. The first hitting it on the right leg and merely grazing its chitin, the second smiting it full on in the chest with righteous fury. After that, it was a 'simple' matter for Armandius to behead the beast and collect a claw as a trophy. When silence fell, the cultists outside decided to venture inside to remove the bodies assuming the acolytes death. Alas for them, all they got was a quartet of shotgun blasts. Shanks missed with both shots have used up all his bad dice rolls, so flicked out his bayonet and led the charge. Armandius having blown the head off his victim closed with his sabre on Shanks target. A long an embarrassing combat ensued where the mighty warriors having slain a Genestealer, failed to kill a single cultist. The cultist fought them to a standstill, smashing the sword out of Armandius's hand. Eventually Armandius switched to his knife and stabbed the cultist in the heart. Microbeading Mavis to slay her cultist, they stole the cultists shotguns, discarding their own, donned the cultists robes and ran to find Mavis, carrying the stealers head as a trophy. Mavis engaged the cultist, epically failing to hit her, and having to use two fate points just to survive. Eventually she managed to kill the heretic nurse via the medium of a death of a thousand cuts.

The others arrived to find Mavis staggering from blood loss and Shanks led the two cripples out of the building via the grill. Shanks yelled out, "There is food in there!" scattering around his corpse starch rations and the underhivers began to storm the complex.

Duke arrived to find the team almost dead but was able to identify the artefact from Desmund’s house as Necron in origin.

The teams objectives were the following:
Determine if the cult is Heretical - Done
Eliminate Arch Bishop Gibson - Half eaten corpse found later in the ruins of the church, so achieved.
Recover holy relics - Fail, the thigh bone of St. Lucius and the tears of the Mother Francis were eventually recovered by a raid on the underhive, but the Eye of Drussus fragment has gone missing.

C01M01S01: Death From Within

Well chaps, first part of the scenario ran last night, went fairly well despite a few obvious issues. Welcome to our new players Dom and Allie (what an apt name). Ok, so for a brief recap of the scenario.

The players arrived at Primus VII on the 'Blade of Fury' after being delayed by warp storms for three weeks. After helping themselves to the armoury, the intrepid quintet embarked via the medium of a Piranha Boarding Boat to Hive Primus, where they met the Starport Owner. Being a reasonable fellow, he loaned the team a limo and gave them access to the Starport hotels finest suite. Duke promptly wrote on his data slate "Quiet, there could be bugs" which sure enough was captured on the Adeptus Arbites video cameras in the hotel room. As was Thackleberrys response which was to shoot the bed, thus giving a convenient excuse for the party to get new rooms.

Unfortunately, the flaming bed set off the hotel fire alarms and fire retardent foam soon covered the Duke, Armandius and Thackleberry. The retarded team, now with bleached blotches on their clothing and specs of retardant foam swiftly exited via the fire escape whilst the arbites escorted them back to the Starport and proceeded to storm the hotel.

Meanwhile, using the Limo, Shanks went to the library to investigate the Joyous Choir and Mavis went to the gym to work out with her long, lady loving fingers. Shanks pulled up information on the deceased Arch Bishop Desmond and his successor Arch Bishop Gibson along with a brief history of the Joyous Choir; this was then shared with the rest of the team. He also discovered the contact address for the teams meeting with Old Man (Harold) McGinnis.

Whilst the team took the subway to go and meet them, Shanks and Mavis then proceeded to head to the Church and interview Deacon Ozymandius and ask for a letter of reference, which due to the sozzled state of the DM, he handed over without question. This letter was then put in a pocket and instantly forgotten.

The team then hopped in the Limo and headed off to the Starport to get the hell out of dodge. The Starport Owner, fearing that the Inquisition would think he had tried to assassinate them was as accommodating as he could possibly be. The team dialled up a Piranha and they hopped over to Hive Secundus.

Upon arriving, the team split once more, Thackleberry went to go and visit the Joyous Choir via the hideously delayed tube (with long delays due to the food riots), who were deep in service, seeing as it was Wednesday and they only open there doors on Sunday, he had a long cold wait ahead of him.

Soon after Thacks arrival Mavis and Shanks investigated Captain Ed's Vid Store to find Old Man McGinnis waiting for them. With a gun pointed at his head they managed to find out a bare minimum of information before a long las shot blasted apart the old heroes head. Shanks searched the body, finding out the chaps address, whilst Mavis managed to shoot out the tyres of the assassins car before engaging him in hand to hand combat. Hitting him once with the butt of her pistol, the chap managed to disarm her quite effectively, she then returned the favour sending his long las flying. After a brief flurry of blows with both sides taking numerous wounds from nasty strikes, Mavis ended the whole endeavour by managing to draw her sword and stab the fellow to death.

His ID card registered him as being Geoff Schlutz, but other than that carried very little information, he did however possess street clothes, 7 Gold Thrones and a Long Las with 28 rounds remaining in its charge pack. His ability in hand to hand demonstrated a basic level of unarmed combat training and his accuracy with the Long Las was without doubt.

Duke and Armandius proceeded to interview Deacon Red, learning background information about the Choir, the Arch Bishop’s Gibson and Desmond and about the recent disappearances of his parishioners. Eventually, they met up with Thackleberry to investigate the disappearance of Old Man McGinnis, the most recent disappearance. They were driven to the house by a squad of 7 Enforcers, led by an Adeptus Arbite. Old Man McGinnis hadn't been to church in three days, although after bursting into his home (courtesy of Armandius blasting the lock with his shotgun), they discovered he hadn't returned home for three weeks. The house was empty apart from an unopened can of silt ale and a small shrine to the Emperor.

Heading next door, they encountered Ethel, a lovable old lady with grey hair, brown eyes and wearing an adorable little woollen cardigan. She told them that McGinnis had warned her to get out, off world if possible and given her money to help her. She of course assumed he was drunk and put the money in a safe place to return to him when she next saw him. Thackleberry then shot her in the head and ran in, shooting George, her alarmed husband of 60 years right between the eyes. Before the party could take any more action, the Enforcers ran in and took them to the Arbite HQ where they met Judge Fredd. Judge Fredd had by now analysed the video tape evidence of the hotel and combining that with the murder of Ethel and George Blake, informed the Inquisition that he was recalling any support to your team as you are contributing to the insurrection and malcontent on the planet rather than solving it.

Duke then headed back to the 'Blade of Fury' to investigate the pirate raids. Thackleberry and Mavis went to the Underhive, where after consuming human flesh, Thackleberry was content and Mavis immediately ejected it from every available exit. Armandius and Shanks went up to the top spires to interview the siblings of Old Man McGinnis, who have managed to get jobs as respectively, Waste Reclamation, Spire Governor and ummm... .
